Future Focus Summer Camp 2016

RE-POST FROM THE UNITED WAY OF DALLAS:

Proud to partner with Accenture and Dallas Regional Chamber to offer 50 Dallas ISD students the opportunity to attend our ‘Future Focus Summer Camp’- equipping students with the skills they need to succeed in college & their future career!

Over the past two weeks, our Future Focus attendees heard from outstanding speakers, worked on their resume-writing & interview skills, visited the headquarters of several major corporations & nonprofits, and participated in a variety of group & team-building projects.

Special thanks to our corporate & community partners: Texas Instruments, Children’s Medical Center, Chase, AT&T and Fossil for your support!

ASAP 2016

ASAP or the Aspiring Scholar Ambassador Program is one Uplift Education’s premier leadership programs. After a very competitive application and selective process, scholars from across the network are selected during the second semester of their Junior year and are afforded the opportunity to go on a Road To College road trip. They get to join a group of their fellow selected scholars and Uplift RTC staff as they travel out of state to visit various colleges and universities. This year, teams left the Lone Star state bound for Boston, MA and Philadelphia, PA from May 31-June 3. While on these trips, scholars on either #TeamPhilly or #TeamBoston get exposed to various types of institutions from small liberal arts colleges to Ivy League universities through campus visits and tours as well as admission presentations and current student panels. Most scholars also get to experience many “firsts” – from first time on a plane, to first time away from home, to their first time out of state, to their first time away from family. These “firsts” are also part of the experience as they are meant to help scholars think through some of the factors they may have to consider as they plan the path they will take on their Road To College and find the college of their dreams!

Uplift Williams Preparatory was proudly represented by Jesus de la Torre, Kelis Escobar, Maritza Mora, Karla Sanchez, Irma Zamarripa and Mrs. Cooper on #TeamBoston, and by Cindy Leija, Mariela Mora, Felix Soriano and Mr. Franco on #TeamPhilly (the best!)
